In this second volume, we guide readers through and examine the various procedures for transforming bodices through dart manipulation and study techniques for creating volumes, draping, and fitted patterns. Moreover, we introduce: techniques for creating patterns for knit fabrics, basic dress blocks and how to adapt these to different fabric patterns and types of garment (for example, maternity dresses), sleeve styles for shirts and dresses, basic blocks for men’s vests and jackets, size grading for tops and dresses, and the fundamentals of pattern layout. This manual therefore offers a comprehensive technical analysis of the themes of tops, trousers, and dresses, and of their logical development. It also prepares the reader to apply these concepts — along with their own intuition and creativity — to constructing patterns. Antonio Donnanno began in his career in his family’s tailor shop and later, after majoring in history and philosophy, focused on the teaching of costume history and patternmaking techniques. In 1982, he founded the acknowledged Euromode School Italia in Bergamo, which soon expanded with new branches on the international stage and where, alongside his teaching duties, Donnanno also serves as director.
